Botox FAQs

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum
It works as a muscle relaxant by temporarily paralyzing muscles.

How does BOTOX work?

Botox works by selectively paralyzing certain muscle groups and thus stopping the contractions of these muscles. This in turn stops the formation of lines and wrinkles in the skin and promotes recovery.

BOTOX are also used for multiple medical reasons such as migraines, and overactive sweat glands.

Does BOTOX hurt?

Botox treatment usually give a small sting when it is injected without an anaesthetic. If required an aneasthetic in the form of an ointment can be applied to numb the skin prior to BOTOX injections. A small amount of redness is usually evident at the injection sites, but most often resolves within an hour.

Will I look frozen and or feel numb after treatment with BOTOX?

Not at all. The effect of BOTOX is dose dependent meaning that the higher the dose the stronger the effect. In the hands of an experienced injector your natural beauty will be enhanced without losing your facial expressions.

Does BOTOX have Side Effects?

3% of people experience eyelid drooping when injected for frown lines and 1% of people experience eyelid swelling when injected for crow’s feet lines.
Side-effects may also include swelling and bruising at the site of injection.

Will I need to take time off after BOTOX treatment?

No. Usually tiny bumps and redness is minimal and barely noticeable and you may return to normal activity straight after treatment. It is ,however, advised not to use Alcohol on the day of treatment and to avoid strenuous exercise on the day of the treatment. Further post-care instructions are provided at the time of treatment.

How long does a treatment session last?

A thorough consultation prior to treatment is essential and this may take time while your doctor gain relevant information regarding your medical history and then consult on the BOTOX treatment plan. The actual injections takes about 5-10 minutes per injection site.

What areas can be treated with BOTOX?

The most common areas on the face are Frown lines, Forehead lines and Crow’s feet.
In the case of overactive sweat glands the underarms are injected.
For Migraine headaches various injection sites on the scalp may be injected.

What is the difference between BOTOX and Dermal Filler treatment?

BOTOX causes paralysis of muscles and thereby reducing lines and wrinkles while a facial filler replaces lost volume underneath or in the skin. (refer also to FAQ regarding facial fillers). BOTOX contains a neurotoxin while dermal filler consists of Hyaluronic acid.

How long does the effect last?

Approximately 3-4 months. It may be shorter or longer depending on each individual.
